Stronger position in the Eastern European market

Uponor Corporation, Vantaa/Finland, boosted revenues by 7.9 % to € 806.4 million in 2011. The company invested in the development of new markets, business fields, and target groups, which are supposed to support the company's medium to long-term future. Uponor’s net sales are expected to grow organically.

"We are pursuing a consistent strategy of growth. This entails investments which inevitably have a temporary impact on our results," explains Heiko Folgmann, Executive Vice President, Central and Eastern Europe.

To support its growth strategy, Uponor is focused on innovation in its product and service offering with unique solutions already launched or in the pipeline. These new products have attracted wide interest and strengthened Uponor’s position in its key markets.

The overall weak market trend of new build activity and higher shares of renovations particularly favoured the demand for Uponor’s plumbing solutions, which are well suited for such projects. For instance, Uponor’s new RTM Technology allows connecting pipes without the need for pressing tools through the integrated press function. This Uponor innovation was launched very successfully in 2011.

The demand for heating and cooling solutions mainly followed new build market trends. These trends were supported by increased interest in radiant heating and cooling solutions due to their low energy footprint.

Therefore, within building solutions, the demand for Uponor’s indoor climate solutions increased, driven by the high customer demand for sustainable and highly energy-efficient systems able to use a variety of energy sources for heating and cooling.

The growth was also partially due to the successful development of geographical markets made clear by a low market share. Uponor strengthened its position in Eastern Europe, but more so in Russia. The company further established a strong presence in international sales markets.

In order to strengthen its total offering, Uponor is involved in a number of partnerships that introduce innovative products to the market. These products are attractive to builders as they help to increase efficiency in the construction process.

Uponor is focusing on their transformation from a system supplier to a provider of drinking water installations and complete heating and cooling solutions. This means that the company develops and provides solutions and services for various types of buildings - from detached family houses to large and complex structures such as factories or office buildings.
