Smart water assistant Phyn Plus to tackle European water wastage and protect homes
Uponor, a leading brand of plumbing and indoor climate systems for residential and commercial spaces worldwide, today announced that the industry-leading Phyn Plus smart water assistant + shutoff is now available across European markets.
Together with Uponor, Phyn’s mission is to help consumers reduce their water usage and contribute to the global water shortage problem, protect their homes, and save money. The World Health Organisation predicts that by 2025 half of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed areas. It is estimated that 20-40 percent of Europe’s available water is being wasted due to leakages, unnecessary irrigation, dripping taps, and a lack of water saving technologies (source: European Commission). Uponor aims to help tackle this catastrophic water wastage with the introduction of Phyn Plus into Europe.
Phyn Plus is the first device to launch in Europe with advanced monitoring capabilities based on pressure sensing that allow users to monitor the whole plumbing system from one place. It detects leaks anywhere in a home and can automatically shut off the main water supply to prevent costly damage. The uniqueness of Phyn Plus is that it provides granular detail for the homeowner on water usage from their water fixtures, allowing them to view consumption from baths, sinks, toilets or showers etc. all from the Phyn app. This way they can conserve and save water.
“We are delighted to now be able to offer Phyn Plus to European homeowners through our leading network of experienced plumbers and water specialists” said Jyri Luomakoski, President and CEO, Uponor. “We have had a successful launch in North America with a great interest from the consumer-side, and are excited to be at the forefront of the digital revolution of plumbing in Europe” he continued.
Following a successful rollout in North America, Phyn Plus now brings intelligent water management to the smart home experience for customers in France, Sweden, Spain and Finland, with Germany and other European markets to follow later in 2019.
The technology behind Phyn Plus is the result of nearly a decade of research and development. Phyn is a joint venture between smart home technology leader Belkin International and Uponor. In Europe, Phyn Plus is exclusively marketed through Uponor’s network of trusted partners, so consumers can be assured of the highest quality installations.
Phyn Plus also works with Amazon Alexa, allowing homeowners to ask their smart assistant to provide updates on their water consumption and even turn their water off and on (through Phyn Plus' shutoff valve) using voice commands.
“With smart home device popularity exploding in Europe, we saw 2019 as the perfect time to offer Phyn Plus to the European market and help consumers take the next step in making their homes truly intelligent” said Ryan Kim, CEO of Phyn. “Water wastage is nearing critical levels in the region, but this problem isn’t getting the attention it needs. By protecting their homes from leaks with Phyn Plus, our users can now rest assured they are doing their part to solve the challenges facing water scarcity at home and throughout the world" He continued.
