PEX Drives Efficient In-Slab High-Rise Install,

A 60-story multifamily structure in Downtown LA needed a durable, reliable, efficient plumbing solution that could be installed in the slab while also promoting long-lasting system performance.

ACCO Engineered Systems sought a plumbing solution that could be installed in a concrete slab to allow for higher ceilings in the residential units. This type of installation had never been done before by any other plumbing contractor in the city of Los Angeles. Going into the project, they knew they had a tight installation timeline of plumbing one 16-unit floor per week and needed a system that facilitated a quick installation while maintaining reliability. The plumbing subcontractor, ACCO, also wanted a strong product warranty for added confidence. They have a long history record and are well versed in high-rise installations, so they wanted a brand that offered support throughout the entire construction cycle to help ensure a smooth installation from start to finish.

The project incorporated Uponor AquaPEX® pipe, ProPEX® fittings, and multiport tees for the in-suite plumbing while also using long coils of pre-sleeved Uponor AquaPEX in the concrete slab. Both the engineer and installer felt confident about the installation efficiency and lasting quality of the Uponor products. Kevin Brown, senior preconstruction project manager at ACCO Engineered Systems said, “The lifespan of Uponor PEX is nearly 100 years, which helps us create systems that are going to last and keep the client happy.” Roman Hernandez, general foreman at ACCO Engineered Systems said, “The project is an overall efficient success. The price of the product, support from Uponor, success of the in-slab installation, and the capabilities of PEX compared to copper helped us stay on an aggressive install schedule.”

Residential Complex "SVITLO PARK"

Line renovations in blocks of flats can be conducted significantly faster and more easily. The Uponor R2I cassette makes for a problem-free renovation. Thanks to advanced prefabrication, the project period is shorter and the risks are lower. The As Oy Varsta company in Turku is the first R2I pilot site. The site will be completed to an expedited schedule.

Underfloor cooling adds value to new construction

Postitalo, the former post office building in downtown Tampere, got a new look in 2017 when it was renovated into new commercial premises and a block of flats was built on top. The heat distribution system of choice was Uponor's underfloor heating and cooling system, which was installed in all flats.

Two seven-storey blocks of flats were completed in the Mukkula district in Lahti in late autumn 2015. Service flues were installed in a total of 108 flats at Asunto Oy Lahden Timonkadun Helmi on Timonkatu.

The joint renovation project in Maunula – cost savings through co-operation

An 8-storey apartment is rising in a former bank district in Lahti. The target will contain 265 apartments and is designed by A1 Arkkitehdit Oy and will be built by Nuorisosäätiö. There are 256 rental apartments reserved for students on floors 2-7. Uponor R2I blocks will be installed in all of the student-apartments in connection with bathroom and kitchen elements. Aleksi 5 is the first new destination in which R2I blocks are being delivered and in which sound-absorbing Decibel drains are used.
