When it comes to installing new systems in existing private homes such as this remarkable 19th century home, the new generation of wireless individual room control systems with DEM impresses customers with its quick, easy and clean installation performed by qualified technicians.
This gentle type of renovation enables home owners to optimise their existing radiant heating systems without the need to replace piping or remove old floor coverings or screed.
Martin Becker from Wetten Heizung Sanitär GmbH in Aachen, Germany, commented on his experiences with DEM:
“Home owners often associate renovation work with lots of dust and huge amounts of work. All the better when our customers realise that the modern wireless individual room control with DEM can be installed with no dust and very little effort.”
At the house in Aachen, heating energy is used to supply the 125 m² of living space – spread out over three floors – with gentle heat through the underfloor heating system. In the past, precise adjustments to the desired temperature were not always possible. However, this all changed with the installation of the new wireless individual room control with DEM. One important feature of the DEM is the auto balancing function – this means that no manual hydraulic balancing is required on the manifold. Using this technology, home owners can save up to 12 percent on energy costs for the renovated building.
In addition to saving energy, the main goal was to make sure that heat is distributed evenly on all three floors using a simple and precise control unit,” adds Martin Becker. It was important to the customer to avoid overheating or underheating and to improve the room temperature in the future. The required energy is evenly distributed to each of 22 heating circuits through the use of pulses. This offers the customer precise control of the temperature in the individual rooms. Energy distribution is carried out by the intelligent, self-learning software of the DEM.
The thermo drives on the heat distributors are opened at four times the frequency of other systems, resulting in an even surface temperature throughout the entire underfloor heating system. This system prevents the flow rate from being too high during short cycles or too low during longer heating cycles.
In addition to optimising energy distribution and regulating temperature output, our system is also simple to install and operate. The system is operated using the new I-76 operating module as the central component. The wireless individual room control also offers additional benefit with the room check function. This function carries out a simple and reliable check of the room sensor assignment without the need to perform a lengthy ‘scan’ of the rooms. The existing radiant heating and cooling system utilises a modern gas-condensing boiler system together with an Aqua solar system for electricity production. This ensures an efficient use of gas and renewable solar energy.
“We are now planning to operate an optimised underfloor heating system with a supply temperature of 40°C and a return temperature of 30°C,” says Martin Becker. Together with increased energy efficiency generated by the intelligent DEM technology, it is possible to achieve energy savings of around 12 percent over conventional radiant heating systems. By using the DEM during the renovation work, it was possible to generate lasting savings for the home owner in Aachen, North-West Germany. The new wireless individual room control with DEM is an investment – not only in terms of energy cost savings but also when it comes to added comfort.
