GF Flow Symposium Speakers Continue Prefab Discussion on Mechanical Hub Podcast

Daniel Worm, Value Added Services Manager at GF, Danny Miller, Global Product Manager at GF, and Randy Ayers, Division Manager at Control Air Enterprises, sat down with John Mesenbrink and Tim Ward, co-hosts of Mechanical Hub’s Appetite for Construction podcast, to discuss prefabrication and dive deeper into the trio's breakout session.
Ayers, Worm, and Miller’s breakout session at the GF Flow Symposium in Nashville, Tenn., explored how integrating kitting and prefabrication can increase jobsite productivity, improve efficiency, and provide contractors with a competitive advantage.
The inaugural symposium provided an immersive experience where innovation meets industry leadership, bringing together visionaries, experts, and customers to explore the future of system solutions across commercial and industrial markets.
In the episode, titled “Design Better, Build Better,” Ayers touched on Control Air Enterprises' partnership with Uponor, what he took away from his experience at GF Flow Symposium, and how outreach about the trades industry continues to be important.
Control Air Enterprises has used Uponor products for multiple projects, including a hydronic system for a Marriott Hotel in Anaheim, Calif., a radiant heating and cooling system in San Diego, Calif., and Uponor Prefabricated PEX Water Risers at the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
Ayers also emphasized the importance of outreach in the coming years to help address the shortage of skilled trades workers. While he said the San Diego region is not currently experiencing a workforce shortage, he said the region will experience a strain in the upcoming years as several large-scale projects get underway in the community.
He said the outreach to junior highs, high schools, and colleges about the trade industry should never stop.
“Not everyone is interested in going down the engineering path or the teaching path,” Ayers explained. “They just want to get their hands dirty every day and go to work. We need to make sure kids know the options that they have in front of them.”
Worm and Miller Dive Deeper into Jobsite Productivity
During their session at the symposium, Worm and Miller discussed macrotrends, where the industry is at, and getting into ways GF can help contractors be more productive on jobsites with Uponor solutions and services.
“The focus really was on the partnership between contractors and manufacturers,” Miller said. “Providing full solutions versus just products to support installers, contractors, and building owners to be able to facilitate and execute these projects on time.”
The two also touched on how prefabricated products and Uponor Kitting Services can reduce jobsite installation time, how midsize contractors and smaller businesses can integrate prefabricated solutions into their projects, and how partnerships between GF and contractors come together on prefabricated projects.
