Journal Squared, Jersey City, NJ

By Alex Gross

A three-tower residential, retail, and office complex needed a plumbing solution that enhanced sustainability and offered a simplified installation method.

The developers of Journal Squared designed the project with a strong emphasis on sustainability, seeking solutions with minimal environmental footprint throughout their lifecycle, from extraction and processing to installation. They also prioritized reliability to avoid repairs that would increase material consumption and environmental impact. For the developers, sustainability extended beyond environmental considerations to encompass the health and safety of installers. Their ideal solution would eliminate the need for torches to provide a safer connection method for installers while also removing fire-watch permits, which can hinder the construction schedule.

Developers for Journal Squared chose an Uponor AquaPEX® plumbing system, which aligned with their sustainability, reliability, and installation goals. The AquaPEX system offered a more sustainable solution than copper, providing a lower carbon footprint from extraction through installation.
