Discover why PEX is the superior piping solution for potable-water systems in residential and commercial structures.

Connections You Can Trust

Uponor offers ASTM F1960 expansion fittings and PEX pipe that the industry has trusted for decades. The connection system uses one simple tool to expand the pipe and expansion ring before inserting a fitting, eliminating the possibility of a dry fit . According to a case study in the Journal of Cleaner Production, PEX took half of the time to install compared to copper and offered a labor savings of 45% compared to copper. From domestic water to hydronic distribution piping, radiant heating and cooling, and residential fire sprinkler systems, Uponor PEX provides reliable piping solutions designed for long lasting performance.

Construction presents unique challenges, tight timelines, dense building codes, space limitations, and high labor costs. Uponor systems are designed with these realities in mind, delivering flexible, code-aligned solutions that help streamline approvals and speed up installation. Our proven track record in cities around the world demonstrates our ability to support even the most complex construction projects with precision and performance.

Built to Code from the Ground Up

Uponor PEX piping systems are designed to comply with a range of international standards, including:

•    NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 – Drinking Water System Components – Health Effects
•    ASTM E84 – Surface Burning Characteristics (for plenum spaces)
•    ASTM E814 – Firestop Systems
•    ASTM E119 – Fire-Resistance of Building Construction Materials
•    International Plumbing Code (IPC), (including Section 610    )
•    New York State Plumbing Code
•    International Mechanical Code (IMC)
•    NSF 14 – Plastics Piping System Components and Related Materials

Additional Applications and Endorsements

As the first to bring PEX radiant heating to North America more than 40 years ago, Uponor PEX is the pioneer in radiant systems, including radiant heating and cooling, snow and ice melting, turf conditioning, and permafrost prevention. In fact, Uponor radiant systems for commercial applications are being installed in Terminal One at JFK Airport.

Recent city legislation regarding Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) proposed that New York State Plumbing Code be adopted, which supports the use of PEX piping as a safe and reliable plumbing solution. The legislation, as presented, received no opposition from any city agencies on record, even though New York City has yet to add PEX to its plumbing code.

Uponor residential fire sprinkler systems were recently approved in legislation by New York City council, which was reviewed by the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY). Additionally, the fire department of Madison, WI, endorses PEX residential fire sprinkler systems. Jesse Faust, a former Madison firefighter and EMT, sustained partial paralysis after a severe car accident in 2022. During the construction of his new home, Faust prioritized fire safety, and after seeing how commercial buildings benefit from sprinkler systems, he chose to incorporate a residential solution with PEX.

Centered Around the Environment

  • Studies indicate the carbon footprint of PEX is lower than copper when considering material extraction, processing, and installation. For example, according to the Journal of Cleaner Production, “...energy and global warming potential reductions for PEX piping compared to copper piping (average for copper pipes types K, L and M) are 44% and 64%.”

  • PEX is recyclable through advanced processes that are more specialized than traditional curbside recycling.
