The first and best in radiant floor heating

Uponor has been providing reliable radiant floor heating systems longer than any other company in North America. Our trained staff of expert radiant designers, field technicians and nationwide distribution network give you the service and support you can depend on for a partnership you can grow with for decades.

ENERGY-EFFICIENT COMFORT

Improved IEQ

With heating and electricity generation accounting for nearly 25% of all greenhouse gas emissions, radiant helps manage energy usage and offers superior indoor environmental quality (IEQ) that forced-air systems just can’t provide.

IEQ benefits of radiant

  • Improves air quality by eliminating fans that circulate dust, pollen and odors
  • Quiet system enhances sound quality for a more peaceful home
  • Provides an even temperature with no hot or cold spots
  • Keeps heat at your feet instead of up in the ceiling

Tips for installing radiant floor heating

Staple down

This is one of the more common installation practices for new construction. The staples go around the outside of the pipe (not through it) and then adhere to the surface. Once the pipe is securely fastened, a layer of lightweight gypsum concrete is poured over top of the piping creating a smooth, solid surface for the floor.

Tie down

Use the tie-down method for installations on or below grade. Wire ties affix the PEX pipe to the wire mesh or rebar (typically every three feet) to ensure the pipe stays in place as the concrete is poured over the pipe and wire mesh or rebar grid system. Under-slab insulation is typically necessary to ensure heat is not lost to the ground.

PEX rails

PEX rails help to ensure an even spacing for the layout pattern. Typically used in structural and non-structural concrete slab applications, PEX rails can be fastened to almost any surface, including wood, foam board insulation and concrete.

Knobbed mats

Knobbed mats, like Uponor Fast Trak, are becoming a more widely used option for radiant floor heating, due to their ease of use. Simply adhere the mats to the concrete slab or wood subfloor and press the pipe between the knobs (either by foot or by hand).

Wood panels

With typical thicknesses of only a half inch, wood radiant panels, such as Quik Trak, are an ideal solution for residential remodel and retrofit applications. The panels simply fasten to the plywood subfloor and feature a groove down the center for the piping placement. An aluminum sheet on the bottom of the panel increases the heat transferability.

Aluminum plates

Aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat, so using aluminum heat-transfer plates is an effective way to install a high-performing radiant floor heating system when concrete overpour on the surface of the floor is not an option. The plates fasten to the underside of the subfloor between the joists and feature a channel down the middle where the piping locks into place.
