Smooth renovation, neat result
The plumbing renovation at a single-family home in Pori went exactly as Esa Lindvall, who commissioned the work, had expected: quickly, smoothly, and at a reasonable cost. The old copper pipes were replaced in four days with a durable, safe, and hygienic Uponor composite pipe system.

The approximately 160-square-meter single-family home owned by Esa Lindvall and his family is located in Kalaholma, Pori, about five kilometers from the city center. The wood-framed, single-story building was completed in 1970.
Lindvall, who purchased the house in 1987, explains that the copper domestic water pipes, which have now been renovated, were the original ones, meaning they were already over five decades old.
“The pipes didn’t have any leaks or other problems yet, but of course, with pipes that old, we’re already pretty close to the risk threshold.” The same was noted by the installer from Porin VK-Lämpö, who renovated our home’s heating system last year,” Lindvall says.
We didn’t have to wait long for the pipe renovation: Porin VK-Lämpö Oy visited the site in April 2025 to assess the situation and plan the routing for the new domestic water piping.
“We received a quote for the project quickly after that, and the work was scheduled for May.”
A polished finish
During the renovation, the old copper water pipes were replaced with Uponor composite pipes.
Easy, quick, and clean to install, composite pipes are ideal for renovation projects. The pipes are usually installed as surface-mounted pipes without damaging large structures, so the renovation takes only a few days and residents can stay in their homes during the work. The versatile pipes can also be encased or installed in a suspended ceiling.
HVAC engineer Matti Saarenmaa of VK-Lämpö explains that in the Lindvalls’ home, the new pipes were installed on the surface along the ceiling edges of the rooms.
– The only structural work involved drilling through-holes between rooms for the new pipes. We removed all the visible old copper pipes, but the pipes inside the structures were left in place.
Saarenmaa notes that the Uponor composite pipe comes pre-finished, so the end result is always very neat. Installation is also faster since no post-treatment is needed.
Esa Lindvall also praises the pipes’ neat, finished appearance.
– You hardly even notice the pipes; they blend in well with the light-colored wall surface. In the bathroom, on the other hand, chrome-colored composite pipes were used, which look stylish.
Done in a few days
According to Saarenmaa, the speed and ease of a domestic plumbing renovation in a single-family home may even surprise customers.
– People often worry, for example, about how to prepare for the renovation and how much the residents themselves should do or know in advance. However, a plumbing renovation requires very little preparation from the client, and there’s no need to move out during the renovation either.
Lindvall explains that the plumbing routes were reviewed in advance with the installer, so the family was able to move some items out of the way in a few of the tightest spots.
“We ended up cleaning out the walk-in closet at the same time,” she laughs.
“I had already looked into the renovation process myself beforehand, so there were no surprises. The work went exactly as agreed: they started on Monday, and by Thursday everything was already finished. During the renovation, a few plumbing fixtures were also replaced, and a new outdoor water spigot was installed—something we hadn’t had before. There was only one water outage when the new pipes were connected, so the work didn’t disrupt our daily life at all.
Lindvall considers the cost of the renovation to be very reasonable, especially when considering the peace of mind that comes with having a plumbing system in good working order.
– This was a very effective and good solution for us, and of course, it’s easy to recommend a renovation that went this well to others. The speed of the renovation and the fact that we didn’t have to move out are significant advantages for the residents—and, of course, in terms of costs.
A high-quality system ensures a safe end result
VK-Lämpö in Pori has been a partner of Uponor KOTI for about three years, but according to Saarenmaa, the company has been using Uponor pipes for a long time even before that.
– It is important to us that the supplier is reliable and that we have a high-quality, safe, and versatile complete system at our disposal. The product range always includes the right parts, accessories, and tools, and overall, responsibilities and warranties are properly maintained.
Saarenmaa notes that Uponor KOTI customers also receive Uponor Product Protection and an Uponor System Certificate for the installed products and systems.
– The system certificate is also a valuable document when selling a home, as it clearly states which systems have been installed in the house, who performed the installation, and who, for example, serves as the contact person in case of potential issues.
With over 45 years of experience
Porin VK-Lämpö, operating in the Pori and Satakunta region, is a family-owned business that has been in operation for over 45 years and currently employs seven people.
– Renovations and maintenance of domestic water and heating systems in single-family homes are a major source of work for us. The Satakunta region has many single-family homes built in the 1960s–80s, whose HVAC systems are now reaching the end of their lifecycle.
Many of the company’s customer relationships have lasted for decades.
– This work is based on trust. Customers give us their keys and entrust their homes to us—of course, we always want to be worthy of that trust, says Matti Saarenmaa.
