A new regional logistics hub featuring Uponor underfloor heating

The imposing LIDL logistics hub in Cestas (33), located at “Les Pins de Jarry,” covers a total area of 52,000 m². The project is being carried out by Eiffage Construction Sud Ouest and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2018.

The underfloor heating solution installed across this vast area meets high energy efficiency standards

LIDL currently operates a logistics hub in the town of Cadaujac (33), but this facility has become too small and ill-suited to meet new requirements for space, safety of goods and personnel, and the brand’s business growth.

The retailer is developing the Cestas logistics hub project, which will supply the brand’s 72 stores in Aquitaine and meet high energy efficiency standards. The hub spans 52,000 m², and the Uponor hydraulic underfloor heating system covers an area of 35,000 m². 

The design also incorporates sustainable development criteria, such as a rainwater harvesting system, natural lighting with a transition to LED, and waste recycling systems. The Building Management System (BMS) will allow the heat generated by the machinery to be recovered to heat the plenums (the spaces between the upper floor slab and the suspended ceiling). Heat from the motors of the refrigerated units will be used for the warehouse’s underfloor heating. 

The sales team, consisting of Thomas Chol and Sylvain Antonini from the Southeast region, was supported by Michel Applagnat, Product Manager for France, to present the underfloor heating solution to installer Hervé Thermique. Thanks to the reliability and efficiency of this technology, the solution was selected for the project.

The Uponor underfloor heating solution: sustainable and energy-efficient

Underfloor heating systems are sustainable solutions well-suited for large spaces or work areas with specific requirements, such as those found in industrial buildings.

The Lidl brand has incorporated Uponor solutions into several construction projects because they are suitable for buildings with high energy requirements. The Uponor underfloor heating system is well-suited for storage areas because it does not stir up dust, unlike forced-air heating solutions. It delivers energy savings of 30 to 50%. Furthermore, the Uponor underfloor heating solution requires less frequent maintenance, which does not disrupt business operations. This results in savings of 20 to 40% compared to a conventional heating system.
